INCONTINENCE LINERS & BLADDER CONTROL PADS
Raise your hands (or not!) if you've tried using a maxi or minipad for light/moderate incontinence issues? Well, if you have - you're not alone & you've found out the hard way that sanitary pads were not designed for incontinence use.
Incontinence liners & bladder control pads are designed to be extremely more absorbent & have the added benefit of a waterproof backing. There are both disposable & cloth incontinence liners & bladder control pads. With new technology - some companies even make them flushable & compostable!
ADULT DIAPERS & ADULT BRIEFS
For moderate/heavy incontinence other incontinence products are required, namely an adult diaper or adult brief. Again, these are available in disposable or cloth versions, & sized from XS to XXXL. One company we found in Australia even makes them compostable & flushable! We can't wait to find those in the N. American market! That's green & innovative thinking!
Compared to 'diapers' of years past, today's adult diapers & briefs are much less bulky - but hold more! Many have adjustable fit features that allow them to be adjusted to fit perfectly. Most have elastic leg gathers to improve fit & prevent urine leakage; & air flow to help reduce other issues caused by incontinence.
MORE INCONTINENCE PRODUCTS
If you're new to the market of incontinence products, incontinence products can be overwhelming.
Popular choices for incontinence products are:
- Wipes & Wascloths
- Gloves (essential for caregivers!)
- Odor control products - you may need something different that what's available at your box store.
- Outer pants made of nylon, vinyl or rubber for an extra level of protection.
Some men have problems with constantly leaking small amounts of urine. For them a drip collector may be enough. A drip collector is a small pocket of absorbent padding with a waterproof back side (much like an incontinence liner). The drip collector is worn over the penis and is held in place by close-fitting underwear. Specially designed incontinence underwear is designed for this purpose.
Some men can also use a condom catheter device. This product is placed over the penis, similar to a condom. It has a tube on the end & connects with a collection bag tied to the leg. This device can handle small or large volumes of urine with little odor, minimal skin irritation, & easy use.
Another option for men is a soft clamp called a cunningham clamp that is placed over the penis. This clamp gently keeps the urethra (the tube that carries urine out of the body) closed until it is released to allow emptying of the bladder. Although it might be uncomfortable at first, most men do adjust to it. It is reusable, so it can be more economical than other options.
INCONTINENCE PRODUCTS FOR CHAIR & BED PROTECTION
Underpads are flat absorbent pads used to protect bed linens & chairs. Underpads are made of absorbent material, which keeps your skin protected by wicking moisture away from you. They have a waterproof backing, are available in disposable or cloth & some have designs to complement your decor.
INCONTINENCE PRODUCTS TO KEEP YOUR SKIN DRY
IMPORTANT! Protect your skin - keep it dry! Don't keep a saturated incontinence pad or adult diaper in contact with your skin for long periods of time. Thoroughly clean & dry your skin. Remove all wet clothing & linen.
Don't forget your skin! There are other incontinence products available to you for incontinence skin care. Skin care lines like Remedy, which cleanse, moisturize & protect the skin - and aren't difficult to get off like many other incontinence products.
WHERE TO BUY INCONTINENCE PRODUCTS
Thanks to the internet, you can now shop for these products from home & have them delivered discreetly to your door, from webstores like DryDiapersPlus. Or, alternatively, you can find them at your local pharmacy, box store or pharmacy - if you aren't bothered by dragging your incontinence products home (they are be bulky!) in front of the prying eyes of your neighbors!
