Women Beware - Is Surgery Really Necessary?

Your pelvic floor is an amazing part of your body. Think of all the functions it controls - it maintains bladder and bowel continence, puts the "oomph" in orgasm, prevents pelvic organ prolapse and plays a vital role in spinal stability.

Yet many women, including myself, don't know how to improve or prevent problems, where to go to for advice, or what treatment options are available.

Recently I read Hold It Sister, by Mary O'Dwyer. Mary is a 'Down Under Physical Therapist' from Down Under. She specializes in Women's Health and has helped thousands of women reconnect with their pelvic floor function and manage their continence, control prolapse and regain their orgasm. Mary can show you, your daughter, your friends, your mom - women of all ages - how to take control of perhaps their most important muscle system - their Pelvic Floor.

Within the first 10 minutes of reading this book - I realized that the 4 reconstructive surgeries I've had to go through (imagine, 6 episiotomies for 2 babies!) could have been avoided had I just had the knowledge from this book! Yes, you read that right - I've had 4 reconstructive surgeries for my pelvic floor - because of prolapses.

How do you know what muscles to exercise?  That was always my inside question when my OBGYN would say "you need to do kegal exercies". Well - this book makes it very easy to understand which muscles you need to use. Especially when you combine the knowledge from this book with IncoStress.

Fact - research shows 30% of women who are surgically repaired, prolapse again requiring further surgery with even less chance of success (and I'm walking proof since I've had 4 reconstructive surgeries and was just getting ready to go see a specialist about having another done - but not now - now that I've read this book - and am using IncoStress!).

It’s hard to imagine that a book about pelvic control can be so fascinating, but it is. This book is easy to read, well illustrated and is a practical guide to regaining control and keeping it. After all - it's not just about avoiding prolapse - but it's also about a great sex life! This book also pointed out to me why the 'oomph' had disappeared from my orgasms! I knew it had nothing to do with my husband (before kids - there was no problem getting the 'oomph!' times 2 or 3! I knew I was supposed to be in my prime - but thought that maybe there was something to the old wives tale about sex after marriage and kids. After reading Hold It Sister, I can't wait to strengthen my pelvic floor up again - and I just hope the damage isn't too severe that it can't be repaired (and yes, that may be the case since I've had my pelvic floor sliced and diced 4 times now to repair prolapses).

This book covers all ages, from athletic younger women, through pregnancy and post-birth recovery and into menopause and the older pelvic floor (humour here - my OBGYN tells me that she's seen better vaginas on 80 year old women that mine - and I was only 38 at the time!). Hold It Sister is practical and written for everyday women . It's based on current research and explains in detail the what, why and how of this important element of women's body knowledge.

If you don't know the lifestyle factors that damage your pelvic floor and the 10 Healthy Habits for the pelvic floor, you really need this book - so does your mother, your girlfriends and your daughters. This book goes way beyond Kegel exercises and will give you a new understanding of pelvic floor health and maintenance. You might even avoid expensive and unnecessary surgery by following the Hold It Sister program! Take it from me - you don't want the surgery!
